SA lead by 207 on day 1
A magnificent century by Alviro Petersen led to South Africa going in at stumps on day one of the first cricket test against New Zealand at Newlands in Cape Town on 252/3 a lead of 207 with seven first innings wickets still standing.
After skpper Graeme Smith was out for a single, Petersen and Amla added 107 before Amla was out LBW to Franklin for 66 off just 74 balls. Jacques Kallis came to the crease just before tea and stayed with Petersen for another 104 run partnership before he fell to Boult for 60 passing 13,000 runs in the process.
