Semifinalists decided for Roland Garros
With the first semifinal draw decided yesterday between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, it was left for David Ferrer and Andy Murray to decide who would face Rafael Nadal in the other semi at Roland Garros on Friday.
As anticipated the Spaniard Ferrer would prove too hot on clay for Murray to handle as he went down 6-4 6-7 6-3 6-2, while in the other quarterfinal, favourite Rafael Nadal was made to fight, with the first set against compatriot Nicolas Almagro going to tie-break, which Nadal won 7-6 (7/4). From there on it was one-way traffic, as Nadal demolished his Spanish opponent 6-3 6-2 for a straight sets passage to a semifinal meeting with another Spaniard in Ferrer.
The two women’s quarterfinals in the bottom half of the draw saw Maria Sharapova thrash Estonian Kaia Kanepi (23) 6-2 6-3, while fourth seed Petra Kvitova downed unseeded Czech Yaroslava Shvedova 3-6 6-2 6-4. — David Blood, SportsCentral
