City vs Chelsea could decide 2nd place
It will be a Blue day in Manchester regardless of who wins at Eastlands on Sunday when defending league champions Manchester City face third placed Chelsea in the English Premier League.
With rivals United a full 15 points clear at the top of the table, Roberto Mancini’s Citizens will need a miracle to catch them and the hurdle is even bigger for Chelsea who are a further four points adrift, but the Blues have chance to close the gap and challenge for second place.
It has all the makings of a classic duel, with both managers unsure of their futures and tons of pride for the players to defend. On current form Chelsea could spring a major upset, either way it will be worth watching.
With 11 games left in the season and a possible 33 points on offer for all the teams that have played 27 games so far, Harry’s QPR remain fixed to the foot of the table after a 2-0 loss to Man United at Loftus Road on Saturday. I don’t see any hope for QPR and it just remains to see who will join them in the drop to the Championship.
Aston Villa put up a valiant fight against the hapless Arsenal until Santi Cazorla’s 85th minute goal denied them a point at Highbury, so they slipped back into the drop zone allowing Wigan, who thrashed Reading 3-0 to move above them on goal average.
Reading remain second from bottom on 23 points.
None of the teams in the bottom half of the table can feel secure as only 10 points seperate them.
The once Mighty Reds were pushed down to eigth by West Brom who beat Sunderland 2-1 at the Hawthorns.
Norwich and Fulham both moved a step away from the drop zone with victories. For the Canaries it was a surprise 2-1 win over the Toffees at Carrow Road, while the Cottagers were lucky to get all three ponts at home after Jonathan Walters failed to convert a penalty in the 56th minute in reply to Demitar Berbatov’s 47th minute winner. — David Blood, SportsCentral
