Bulls end on a high note
The Bulls hammered the Leopards 92-21 at a sparsely populated Loftus Versfeld in what should be their final Absa Currie Cup match of the season.
It seems inconceivable, but the Bulls will miss the Currie Cup playoffs for the first time in living memory. What makes this more remarkable is the sheer quality of their play on a warm Friday evening.
The Bulls need the Pumas to beat a star-laden DHL Western Province at Newlands for any chance of making the semifinals. This is highly unlikely.
The Bulls dominated with 14 tries. Try machine Bjorn Basson starred with a second-half hat-trick while No 8 CJ Stander and lock Juandre Kruger each dotted down twice.
The Bulls hd the bonus point after 25 minutes. Three minutes later lock Juandre Kruger rushed over. But the Bulls relaxed and let the Leopards cut their lead to 14 points as flyhalf Wesley Dunlop, centre Joubert Engelbrecht and fullback Hoffman Maritz scored.
Then the Bulls took control with nine tries in the second half. The Leopards were hamstrung as flank Luvuyiso Lusaseni and lock Bradley Mockford were yellowcarded.
Captain Gary Botha scored his first try of the season at the end in his final game for the Bulls. He is on his way back to France at the age of 30. — Staff Reporter, SportsCentral
